School Operating Costs for 2005-2006: When we take the actual operating costs of the school including staff salaries, supplies, equipment maintenance, utilities and most importantly "volunteer teacher support" and divide this total by the total number of students we find out that it costs a little over $500 per year/per student to keep CBS in the black (no profit & no loss) Almost half of this operating budget is raised by charging fees to those parents who can afford to pay. The rest needs to be raised by other means. One of these is our student sponsorship program whereby one or more of our scholarship children can be sponsored by a company or individual. In keeping with our promise to the community not to allow "parent's ability to pay" to be an admission requirement we have awarded either full or partial scholarships to over 140 students this year and are actively seeking concerned individuals, groups or organizations who would like to be involved in helping these children by taking an active interest in their education.

When one adds up all the normal costs involved in sending a child to Cofradia's Bilingual School it comes to around $100 per month including tuition (covers share of school costs only), uniforms (national custom and it keeps everyone equally dressed), books and supplies, transport (many parents prefer it for security but walking works, too) & some good healthy school food (some parents send packed lunches instead). We have some students whose parents are paying for everything (see annual budget below). We have some who are unable to pay anything and we have others somewhere in the middle who are able to pay all except a few hundred Lempira each month.
