History of Cofradia's Bilingual School
Cofradia's Bilingual School was the first private school in the Cofradia area when it was founded in 1997. It changed it's physical location in 1998 and again in 2000, when we built our current facility on owned land on the outskirts of the town itself.
CBS's policy of  both restricting class size and keeping places available for the poorest children in the community has meant that it has required and continues to need outside finacial assistance stay in business.
Ben and Mirna Udy, first as active parents and then as the legal owners have taken on the responsibility of not only making sure it survives but also insuring that it continues to grow and maintain it's position as not only the first private school in the area but also the best and most socially conscious institution in Cofradia.

Ben, an Australian and a US citizen, and Mirna, a Honduran, having 3 primary school aged children of their own  recognize the need for a good bilingual school with a global perspective and solid academics in Cofradia. They know that their own children as well as many other local children would have the world at their doorstep with a good well rounded education combined with good English and computer skills. There are  many families in Cofradia who could never afford to send their children to a good private school and this is one of the reasons for the increasing disparity between the wealthy and the poor in Honduras. It will always be the vision of Cofradia's Bilingual School to focus on providing education to the neediest families in Cofradia while maintaining a standard of excellence that the wealthier parents are happy to pay for. Every year the number of students on full or partial scholarships grows, and the future prospects of the disadvantaged children of Cofradia grow with the school.

In 2000, Ben and Mirna decided to further invest in the future of the school by purchasing a large block of land and constructing a new school building in the middle of a mango grove less than 10 minutes from the centre of town. Unlike the school's previous site, the new location provides plenty of room for physical education and outdoor exploration along with room for additional building as the school continues to grow.

Throughout the next few years, many people donated time, funds, equipment, ideas and moral support to the team in Cofradia. The school's enrollment has continued to increase as we now concentrate on recruiting the very best International mix of teachers to join our annual volunteer team. These teachers not only bring a great deal of experience, but also expose our students to the benefits of a true multicultural education.

Cofradia's Bilingual School was the first private school in Cofradia. Now, only 8 years later, there are 7 private schools in the Cofradia area. Many residents have seen the value of a higher level of education for their children and other educators have followed the example of CBS. CBS is however the only one actively seeking out disadvantaged children in the community.  We are proud to be the only school in Cofradia with teachers from around the globe, bringing a GLOBAL EDUCATION to the most disadvantaged children in the community.
