These are some of the children we have
chosen from the community who's parents are unable to contribute financially
towards the cost of their education. We would like to match each one
of them with an individual, family or group of concerned people who
are not only able to help us cover the costs of educating these children
but can also dedicate a little time to corresponding with the selected
child and forming a mutual relationship over time. These children not
only need a good education, they also need to know that someone in the
world really cares how they are doing in their individual learning adventure.

Jessel was 14 and had only completed 3rd grade when
he met and became friends with some of our volunteers. He had left school
many times because he had needed to work to help support the family.
His father had abandoned them many years before. He worked on banana
plantations and other jobs until his mother remarried. He became very
close to his stepfather, who died from gunshot wounds last year. Once
again Jessel is the man of the house. He is a very helpful young man,
helping with the house painting, showing new volunteers around Cofradia
and is always ready to join a card game or a music jam.

Jessel was offered a full scholarship this year as long as he could
handle the fact that he would need to be in 4th grade at 14. He is
learning English very fast and is really proud to put on his uniform
and be a part of Cofradia's Bilingual School.

US. She has not returned, and the children live with the grandparents.
